In recent years, the popularity of eRideable devices has been steadily increasing. Under Western Australian road safety laws, only individuals aged 16 and over are legally permitted to operate eRideables. This resource is designed to raise awareness of the laws and risks of using eRideable devices, such as eScooters.
Additional supporting resources including parent/carer communication templates can be accessed through Ikon - Access information on the use of eRideables in schools. For teachers external to the Department of Education these are available on request by contacting the Road Safety and Drug Education branch.

This resource is designed to raise awareness of the laws and risks of using eRideable devices, such as eScooters. The lessons have been separated into 2 year group categories to support students understanding of key concepts and laws related to the use of eRideables for their age group, noting: • Years 7–9: Students in these year groups (under 16 years of age) are not legally permitted to use eRideables. Therefore, the focus of these activities is on building awareness and understanding of the relevant laws. • Years 10–12: Students in these year groups are either legally allowed (over 16 years of age) or approaching the legal age, to use eRideables. In addition to key concepts and laws, these activities include content which emphasises ways to stay safe when using eRideables.
This PowerPoint presentation including teacher notes is designed to support teachers with the delivery of the Year 7-9 lesson available in the teacher resource.
